I ask sincerely, how many Holy Grails are there? I’m sure there’s at least two (not mentioning the elusive one that everyone always seems to be looking for but can never find). Paris has given me a lot of things since I have been, my two favorites being the brands Yves Rocher — the Bath and Body Works of France (but let’s be honest, its way more chic than that mall store that sells soap and candles) — and Nuxe.
Yves Rocher is the B E S T, and they have everything?? Perfume? You got it. Body wash? All yours. Nail polish? Not a problem. Not only can YR fill your beauty and skincare needs, but they can do it for any budget. Seriously, Yves Rocher is so cheap you would think it was a scam but the products are just as good — if not better — than their more expensive counterparts. I’ve made a few purchases from YR including: Ylang Ylang scented body wash, Coconut moisturizer, repairing conditioner, and have tried a few of their perfumes as well.
The body wash is heavenly, the scent is so fine it’s like a beautiful perfume that I want to drench myself in daily. I find myself itching to take a shower because I know that I get to enjoy the scent while it lathers into my skin. At roughly $4, the body wash cannot be beat and the scent stays on the skin for hours after you’re done showering. It should also be mentioned that the range of scents is also amazing, from Vanilla Bourbon to Orange Cedar there are options for everyone.
Similar to the body wash, the low cost of the moisturizer has not affected the quality of the product. Also at $4, it’s a steal. The coconut reminds me of summer, I have an affinity for suntan lotion and oils (which will be reinforced later) so for me, the scent is beautiful. I was looking for the matching Ylang Ylang body lotion but unfortunately, no dice. The conditioner, again $4, has worked wonders for repairing my heat damaged ends. Unlike conditioners in the U.S., the formula is more slick easily coating the individual strand without the need for much product.
French pharmacies ain’t nothing to fuck with and nothing proves that more than Nuxe. Okay, Nuxe is available at your local Tar-jayh (Target) so I’m caught but whatever. I have been eyeing the Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse for a few years now but being in Paris, I decided to bite the bullet. While it cost me $20 (on sale — usually $25) it can be used on literally anything. I use it as a body moisturizer, face moisturizer, and even on the ends of my hair.
When I decided to purchase I wanted the Huile Prodigieuse Or, which has gold shimmer in it supposedly giving you a heavenly glow, bit it was $30 and I wanted to make sure that I was happy with the formulation of the oil before dropping that kind of guap. I’m so happy with the oil, the scent is so French, which is literally the only way I can describe it. It’s what I imagine summer in Nice smells like, a beach of blue umbrellas and white and yellow striped towels. Simply wealth.
If there is any kind of product you should buy, it’s a “holy grail” and luckily you don’t have to scour the earth searching for something you can buy online.
